About This City

Manitowoc is located on Wisconsin's East coast and approximately midway between Green Bay and Milwaukee. The area has a rich maritime heritage, including the production of quite a number of submarines during World War II, one of which is docked on the river in downtown Manitowoc at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum and is available for tours. The city and it's people have a reputation for bouncing back, and have many cutting-edge manufacturers making it their home including the Manitowoc Company - a world renowned producer of top quality cranes and ice machines, Orion Energy - a leader in cutting-edge energy technologies, Tower Tech - makers of the large towers for wind generator turbines, and a host of others who will be insulted because I didn't mention them. The area was proud to host a visit by President Barack Obama in 2010, as he recognized the achievements of our local residents and manufacturers in this tough economy!
